6 Inspiring Quotes for Getting Organized

The thought of getting organized can feel absolutely exhausting. At least, that’s how I feel when I look at my closet. Every weekend, I tell myself: “I’m going to do this.” But usually, I give up after an hour or less. Why?

I’m tired. I’d rather be outside. I’d rather catch up on work. Anythingbut organizing my closet.

This is not a healthy or productive way to manage my life. And feeling “tired” is not a good excuse. The more time I spend procrastinating, the more mess builds up. The more my life feels chaotic.

What I need is inspiration — a pick-me-up. That’s what the following 6 quotes are for:

1. “For every minute spent organizing, an hour is earned.” [Click to Tweet]
-Anonymous

As we all know, time is a finite asset. It’s the one resource that will always be fixed. Even worse, we spend 8 out of 24 hours a day sleeping, which only gives us 16 hours a day with friends, family, and work. Nothing gets me inspired more than the opportunity to earn more time. And organizing empowers just that.

2. “Organizing is a journey, not a destination.” [Click to Tweet]
-Anonymous

What frustrates me most about getting organized is that I’m terrible at it. My brain just doesn’t work without piles. My friends frequently tease me, and it’s discouraging. I would love to have an immaculate, perfectly organized closet, but honestly — I’m not sure how to get started. This quote reminds me that inspiration is in the process.

3. “Clutter is nothing more than postponed decisions.” [Click to Tweet]
-Barbara Hemphill  via SimpleWorks Organizing

I’m well-known for leaving my things on the floor. This mess eventually evolves into a pile and even worse — hours of work. This ‘tactic’ is the opposite of intelligent. After I do this, I realize — in hindsight — that I could have saved time by implementing a routine. The tough part? Getting started and training myself. This quote, however, helps me realize that split-second decisions can help amplify the time that I save.

4.”Bottom line is, if you do not use it or need it, it’s clutter, and it needs to go.” [Click to Tweet]
-Charisse Ward via United Mayflower

This quote has single-handedly changed my life. I used to hold on to absolutely everything — creating immense amounts of clutter in my home. I started throwing things away, and space began to amplify. So did my happiness and mental health.

5. “The only difference between a mob and a trained army isorganization.” [Click to Tweet]
-Calvin Coolidge via FinestQuotes

This quote is game-changing. What I’ve learned in my professional and personal life is that one smart person is not enough. Many smart people aren’t enough either. Success depends on coordination and synchronization of efforts. Organization is the staple ingredient to keep your family in sync.

6. “It takes as much energy to wish as it does to plan.” [Click to Tweet]
Eleanor Roosevelt via SimpleWorksOrganizing

It’s this quote that stops procrastinating dead in its tracks. The more time I spend ‘wishing’ things were organized, the less time I spend organizing and getting things done. ‘Wishing’ is poor logic. Success in organization means getting things done.

Which brings us to the end of this post.
